I am having trouble running Windows under Parallels. Windows XP Pro SP3 boots okay but then starts flashing or having a hard time refreshing itself. This is very annoying and I don't know if it is Parallels or Windows issue
Anyone seen anything like this? |

I haven't ever seen that with Parallels Desktop. You might try re-installing Parallels Tools. |

I saw that with an earlier build of Parallels Desktop, but have not seen it with the current one. Am currently running V3.0 Build 5608.0. |

You need to get the latest Parallels build (download from their website).

I did appreciate your suggestion. I was about to trash Parallels and go to Boot Camp. You saved my six! |

Yuck - dual booting is never a reasonable solution in my book. : D |

Forgot to mention here that it can be a good idea to let Parallels reset XP just after XP has finished launching. - I had a similar problem the first time I launched XP after letting Parallels take over...

Yes, - I installed XPPro on a separate HD on my MacPro QuadCore and it boots fine in XP. - Switched to Leopard and launched Parallels. It found the XP HD at once and launched it.
You just have to note that you need to change the USB controller from Windows to let OS X handle the USB controller in Parallels, before you start XP, - else you won't be able to do anything in XP.
Also note that you have to activate XP again when run in Parallels to use it beyond the 30 day trial period. Parallels thinks that - though XP already has been activated - that the virtual XP is a new install.
cheers, Erik Richard |

Yes, and on the same windows partition. However, in such a mode, I think you lose some of Parallels functionalities, like the ability to create successive incremental snapshots of the win system, a very interesting feature if you believe me. |
With a big enough disk, it might be worth while having both. Because nothing is more compatible than Boot Manager for running Windows. |
