Hook the machine up to another Mac (with a DVD drive) in target disk mode, and install from there. I think the other Mac has to be the same processor architecture (PPC or Intel), but other than that OS X installs are universal so the fact that you're installing on different hardware won't matter. |

Use an external DVD drive, Or if your Mac has a Firewire port and you have a Firewire cable, use another Mac with a DVD drive. |

I believe when you put a machine in FW target disk mode, you actually get access to all of its drives. Try putting the Tiger DVD in the machine you're not installing on, and then rebooting *it* in FW target disk mode, hooked up to the machine you want to install on. You should see both the other machine's internal hard drive *and* the Tiger DVD, and then be able to select the Tiger DVD as your boot volume. If you do things this way, it shouldn't matter that the other machine is the wrong processor architecture, since you're basically just using it as an external DVD drive.
I haven't actually tried this, though. |

No problem. Stick the DVD in the one with the DVD drive and start it in Target Disk Mode. Then set the other one's boot disk to be the DVD. |

Doesn't make any difference.
In target disc mode, the second machine is just running like an external drive, and will behave only that way.
The installer program selects the proper code base to install based on whichever processor is running it; you won't even have to tell it.
Just so we're clear:
connect FireWire
startup main computer
turn on external with DVD, hold down t key (until the FW logo appears) hold down c on main computer; it will look for the optical drive with a system on it. |

Ah, people, you are forgetting something basic here. The retail Tiger DVD will NOT boot on an Intel based Mac. There is NO Tiger install DVD for Intel based Macs other than the the restore disks that come with each new machine and those will only install on the machine model they were shipped with.
Assuming for the moment we are dealing with a LEGAL copy of the Tiger install DVD Apple has an exchange program available to trade the DVD in for multiple CDs so people without a DVD drive can install Tiger. But that's only for PPC machines. The first retail installer for Intel machines will be for Leopard. |

Dude, you have to put a DVD drive in your computer. All you have to do is buy one, hell you can get a burner for around $40 and a reader only for about $20. Oh wait, I forgot, you have a Mac, which Mac do you have?

That will work for machines made in the last two or three years, I believe. I'm not sure exactly when the firmware got that feature.

It's a shame that Apple doesn't support network installs without an OS X Server installation. |

If you need something until Leopard is released, consider using Ubuntu for PPC.

Official support has been dropped, but the community is still maintaining it. Debian is also an alternative. |

Yeah, Windows is so backwards it can't support two different CPU architectures at the same time. |
