 |
|
First symptom: no one on the network can print to the LaserJet 2300n with JetDirect card (mod: 615n, p/n: J6057a).
I always presume a configuration (IP) issue when something like this happens, so the first thing I do is to print a configuration page using the printer's front panel display and cursor keys.
The configuration page prints, but it contains no information about the network card. Not even an IP address.
According to all information I can find on HP's web site (the printer's User Guide and the JD's Install Guide), some kind of information about the card should be included on the configuration page printout.
Should I presume that the card is dead? Any way to confirm this without buying a new one?
Thanks, |

Dave-
My HP 4600 uses the 615n. With an Ethernet cable connected between it and a router, there is a green LED lit next to the connector. If not, it may not be receiving power from the computer. The 4600 and other models do have communications information on the configuration page, so its absence would suggest the card is not present/working. There should be a "default" IP address, even if the card was not assigned an address via DHCP.
I would unplug the printer and remove the card. Examine the card and its connector contacts for any sign of damage. Re-seat the card a couple of times to clean-up any contamination on the contacts. If the "mother board" it plugs into can be removed, you might try re-seating that as well. Does the LJ2300 have a second EIO slot to try?
If that does not help, you might try resetting the printer. I don't know about the LJ2300, but some can be reset by holding down the Pause/Resume or Online/Offline button while turning on power.
Check out

The configuration page is actually two pages. The second page has the network card information.
If the second page doesn't print then the printer believes there is no jetdirect card present.
Unplug the card and reseat it (with power off). If that doesn't fix it there is a 99% probability that the card has failed.
These cards (615n) are problematic and have a high failure rate and HP have extended the warranty and no
longer make them, see
http://www.hp.com/pond/jetdirect/j6057a.html
Also they offer some sort of trade in allowance, see http://www.hp.com/united-states/tradein/promo/jetdirect/index.html?ju... If you are in the US you should be able to take advantage of one of these; if not you should contact HP in your country and I am sure there will be a similar policy in place.
Good luck
